Coming together from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences, these professionals form the backbone of Calgary Pump Symposium. Their work shapes the direction and mission of our organization as it continues to develop, and their tireless efforts ensure that each and every symposium delivers the quality expected by each and every patron. Read on to learn more about some of our incredible team members.

President & Vice President

Russ Mackie - President

Russell graduated from the University of Calgary with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. In 1989 he started his career in rotating equipment as an application engineer with Dresser Pumps (now Flowserve). He then joined Weir Canada in 1995 as Area Manager and progressed through various senior roles to become General Manager of Western Canada in 2010. After 20+ years with Weir he left to become an independent consultant. Russell has been on the CPS Advisory Committee since its formation in 2003.

Directors

Arlen Graham - Secretary

Arlen has over 12 years of industry experience in pump applications and related business development. He previously worked at Westpower, Weir, ClydeUnion, and Three Streams Engineering and is currently working in the pipeline department for Tridyne Projects Corporation as Project Manager and Design Lead. Arlen holds a Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma from SAIT along with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA degree from Lakehead University.

Pedro Ocana - Treasurer

Pedro has a Mechanical Engineering degree and M.Sc. in rotating equipment. Currently working for CNRL he is applying his experience in construction; commissioning and start-up; maintenance; and operations to upstream projects supporting the expansion plans of CNRL's Horizon Oil Sands. Prior to joining CNRL, Pedro worked for various end users including ENI, Conoco, and PDVSA in Venezuela.

Myron Hildebrand - Director

Myron graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 1994. He started his career with Chevron, then spent ten years in applications and sales for Ingersoll-Dresser Pumps and Flowserve in Calgary, Houston, and Denver. After a year with the rotating equipment group at Colt Engineering, he went back into sales and sales management for Westpower.

Conrad Horvath - Director

Conrad is a University of Alberta Alumni with 30+ years as a Mechanical Engineer, specializing in rotating machinery. His career has spanned much of the oil & gas industry including upgrades and mining projects, petroleum upgrading and refining, natural gas recovery and H2 production. As former CPS president and now a CPS Director, Conrad has contributed to the ongoing education of others in the industry. Conrad has also worked for Suncor, Petro Canada, Syncrude and Texaco Canada Resources.
